The Kids Comedy Gala

0 Comments 08 February 2013

Beneath the big top of the Lunar Circus a number of children gathered around the ring eagerly awaiting the beginning of the Kids Comedy Gala. When the festival director, “Fat Matt” Yates stepped out from behind the curtain they all began cheering loudly, no longer able to contain their excitement.

Opening with a juggling act that lead to an incredibly tricky two man tower on top of a unicycle had the kids desperate for more.

The tricks that followed were daring and fun with a plate twirling tricks that sent ceramic plates flying and an incredible yo-yo stunt that really captured the kid’s attention.

Dressed as a maintenance man, Tom Flanagan, who is also performing at Fringe World in Kaput, got both kids and parents laughing with a hilarious acrobatic skit that saw him struggling to complete some maintenance jobs.  Like many of the stunts his act involved lots of opportunity for audience participation, with many kids desperate to help out on stage.

The shows finale, which involved a family routine, saw a young boy and talented toddler take to the stage to show off some incredibly impressive acrobatic skills that shocked the whole audience.

Overall the Kids Comedy Gala was a well-executed show that maintained audience interest from the get go. A delightful mix of hilarious antics, amazing, and sometimes dangerous stunts and a few adults-only jokes makes this the perfect afternoon activity for the whole family to enjoy.
