Tiffany Stevenson – Optimus Primed
Reviewed by Alice
At six o’clock on a Tuesday night, and her first show of the Fringe, I expected that there would not be an overwhelmingly large crowd for Tiff Stevenson. I was correct. I was one of only seven people who took their seats upstairs at the Rhino Room. I was a bit nervous as, like many of you, I have learned from experience never to look a comedian directly in the eye and with seven people I had a much greater chance of getting picked on.
Tiffany Stevenson’s talent as a comedian meant she did not have to harass her audience and for that I was grateful. She did however, learn all seven names of the audience members and remembered them instantly. It made for large laughs when she would finish a perfectly timed joke and add “You know what I am talking about don’t you, Alice?” She was wonderfully personable and had a natural rapport with the small audience that seemed effortless.
Stevenson performed her very well structured routine as if she was playing to a room of two hundred. It was truly fantastic to watch a female comedian talk of what society terms ‘women’s problems’ and make them extremely accessible and funny to both sexes. The stand-out moment of the show is when she discussed what she has termed the “arsehole-apocalypse”. She explains that with the amount of arseholes increasing, the world will surely come to an end soon and the “Kardashian sisters will be riding the three horses”.
So, if you are in the mood for an after work show, order a vodka and sit back and enjoy Optimus Primed. Tiffany Stevenson is a stand-up comic that has you laughing continuously for an hour.
