With a bevy of official nominations, including Best Visual effects at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards 2015, you just know that director Jan Macierewicz’s latest fashion film is set to impress.
A collaboration with eclectic eco street wear brand, Dream Nation, the film projects all that is ancient whilst injecting a fierce dose of futuristic energy. Old with the new, tribal with the space-age, this celebration of the brand’s latest campaign – TRIBE – creates an electric shock to the senses with sound, colour and eye-catching effects that were created exclusively on camera and on set.
The Warsaw-based brand prides itself on creating ethically made fashion pieces from bamboo fiber and organic cotton, with this particular campaign involving the artistic talent of famous Polish artist Robert Kuta, who created prints based on Aztec and Ndebele tribal art. The geometric shapes and vivid colours that feature in the clothing, as well as the ethical mindset of the brand, are mimicked in the film seamlessly as one complete sensory experience.
The tribal aspect is explored through a futuristic lense, where a universal family has been created, one that transcends race, gender and sexual orientation (kind of like those United Colors of Bennetton ads – remember them?) dressed in fashionable garb that mirror the art of their ancient ancestors yet exudes a futuristic persona.
This new ‘tribe of the future’ show us a utopia of what is yet to come, in a world of fluid colour, sacred geometry and a new way of tribal initiation. There is love and affection shared between all genders and ethnicities present, as if to show an achieved state of universal love and enlightenment that humans in their current state have yet to reach.
We are given privy into a brave new world where there are no boundaries and love and acceptance is in abundance. People love people. What a glorious Shangri-La dream. All set in the backdrop of saturated hues, jagged lines and flashing shapes creating a kaleidoscope of what our future could be.
